The Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) is one of Germany’s leading research universities with an acknowledged reputation for excellence in research. Established in 1965, RUB is located in the midst of the dynamic metropolitan area of the Ruhr and host to more than 41.000 students and over 5.000 academic and non-academic staff. RUB consistently ranks within the top universities in Germany, as measured by the number of DFG-funded collaborative research centres (SFBs) and currently hosts five SFBs and collaborating in another six SFBs.
The Interdisciplinary Centre for Advanced Materials Simulation (ICAMS) is a research centre at the RUB. ICAMS focuses on the development and application of a new generation of simulation tools for multi-scale materials modelling with the aim of reducing development cost and time for new materials. Within the approach taken by ICAMS, the different length scales that are relevant for materials – from the atomic structure to macroscopic properties of materials – are bridged by an interdisciplinary team of scientists from engineering, materials science, chemistry, physics and mathematics.
